Da Paolo Pizza Bar
Da Paolo Pizza Bar had its soft opening
on 17th July 2004 in the vibrant bohemian hub of Singapore—the
former British army housing base which has been partially converted
into art galleries, lifestyle retail outlets and niche restaurants—better
known to the locals as Chip Bee Gardens.
This
is the Da Paolo Group’s third outlet in the Jalan Merah
Saga stretch, after Da Paolo La Terrazza (restaurant) and
Da Paolo Gastronomia (gourmet shop). Both Da Paolo Pizza Bar
and Gastronomia are Da Paolo Group’s first departure
from fine dining; the operation’s focus, however, remains
single mindedly on quality Italian food and providing premises
with avant-garde architecture.
Da Paolo’s choice of location for
the Pizza Bar was deliberate: the bohemian reputation of Chip
Bee Gardens lends itself to the Pizza Bar’s concept
of providing a sociable and creative environment to drink
and eat. Furthermore, the Pizza Bar’s bold and unusual
décor of a cowhide covered ceiling, bronze panel walls,
see-through glass kitchen and shelves upon shelves of glimmering
brown and green bottles might seem rather strange for a pizza
joint but confers a chic, stylish yet still inviting air.
The creative presentation of the food, the music, and the
friendly service makes it a fun and casual place that encourages
mingling and conviviality. Groups are encouraged to order
assorted dishes and share. A small selection of good wines,
priced at a medium to low range, is available with pizzas.
The Pizza Bar follows faithfully the Da
Paolo trademark cooking, that is using fresh and healthy ingredients
to bring out the taste. Ingredients to make the pizza dough
are sourced directly from Italy and toppings are made from
fresh ingredients only. The Pizza Bar offers a completely
different menu from that of its sister restaurants.
Besides regular pizza, a choice of the well
known Da Paolo squid ink, chilli, tomato or Arugula dough
is offered for the Day Specials. Pizza toppings are gourmet
in style - an assortment of salad, cheese, smoked and grilled
fish/meat are created and changed regularly. To complement
and provide alternative dishes - Panini Caldi ( Italian Sandwiches),
hot Italian dishes such as Lasagna, salads topped with meat,
fish or cheese that are a meal in itself are available. For
those who prefer to drink, a good selection of small bites
such as deep fried meat balls, calamari fritti, vegetable
fritti are available as accompaniment.
Da Paolo Pizza Bar has also created a delectable
breakfast menu for a relaxed and leisurely meal for lazy weekend
mornings. Coffee, tea and various juices are available for
you to sip as you bask in the gentle morning sun and wait
for your fresh, piping hot food.
The seating are versatile and encourage
mingling; tables can be joined or separated to make twos,
fours or larger, singles can join a long communal table. The
open design allows all tables an outside view of the interesting
mix of people & traffic that ply Jalan Merah Saga. Alfresco
dining and benches for mingling and drinking are also available.
The Pizza Bar is open for lunch right through
to dinner, with breakfast served on Saturdays and Sundays,
and closed on Mondays.
