Da Paolo Il Giardino, opened in December
2002, is located in Cluny Court, just a stone’s throw
away from the Botanic Gardens. The garden restaurant tucked
away in this charming upmarket residential area & next to
the Botanic Gardens, provides a welcome respite from the fast
living pace & the chaotic traffic rumbles of urban Singapore.
In Da Paolo Il Giardino, guests can enjoy the soothing, natural
sounds of chirping birds and the rustle of bamboos swaying in
the breeze.
The
lush garden was created to provide verdant comfort in a pastoral
setting that nonetheless maintains a certain élan.
Lights flooding from the long stone footpath, as well as spotlights
thrown out into the night sky from behind a living curtain
of elegant bamboo, greets the arriving guest with the meditative
serenity of a spa. This dramatically lit long footpath takes
the guests to the main garden where exotic trees & giant
urns are juxtaposed against the backdrop of garden walls lined
with jagged black slates & rocks. Mangrove woods with
distinctive grains and colours, specially imported from Indonesia,
are used for benches & tables. Wooden trellises covered
with thick creepers, a giant awning and ceiling fans provide
cool comfort to diners even in the blazing Singapore afternoon.
Guests who drive have easy access to garage
parking. This will take them directly to the main garden of
the restaurant.
The serene surroundings & the tropical
garden is not the only lure. The retro-chic interior is a
charming mix of cream cushions, mangrove wood, glass &
sparkling acrylic. At the end of the restaurant is the kitchen
area—this has been cleverly partitioned by a glass wall
for all to be able to discreetly look into the kitchen. The
glass wall also doubles up as a shelf for wine glasses. Adjoining
this partition is a room discreetly separated from the other
diners with see through acrylic rods, also a popular choice
for private functions. A bar that starts from the entrance
by the garden joins a long communal table lined with high
comfortable stools, designed for dining or drinking by patrons
who do not mind mingling with strangers.
The food at Il Giardino bears the Da Paolo
trademark – simple, unpretentious, Italian fare that
uses the freshest ingredients available and offered to the
customer for the best value possible, for example the Sunday
breakfast set which is a four course meal is only $25+++.
Where else in land scarce Singapore can diners enjoy a fine meal in luxuriant greeneries but at Da Paolo Il Giardino?

Paolo Scarpa, chef cum owner of Da Paolo Group.
Paolo started as a pastry chef with Cecconi, celebrity restaurant
located in Mayfair London in 1978. Moved to Singapore in 1984
and opened his first Da Paolo restaurant in 1988.
